The A31 Magherafelt Bypass is a 6km bypass to the east of Magherafelt, Co. Derry, comprising single and 2+1 carriageways, as well as three roundabouts.

The Design and Build (D&B) contract was awarded to BAM McCann JV, with Ramboll acting as the Contractor’s Designers. AGL was appointed as Category III independent design checkers for the design of the earthworks (including specifications) and foundations on the scheme.

The scheme required over 30 major structures, including single and multipipe culverts, precast portals, shallow and pile foundations for integral bridges, and reinforced earth retaining walls.

Construction commenced in March 2015 and the road was officially opened on October 2016.
